The leaves on my young kale, broccoli and chilli seedlings keep getting eaten overnight. I started noticing it gradually but now I will wake up to a whole tray of seedlings eaten back to the stem.

These are all indoor seedlings yet to be planted out, in different trays in different rooms. The only constant variable is the soil but the problem continued even when i replaced that.

At first I thought it could be cutworm, but having sifted through the soil in a number of trays I have found no sign of them.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

  • My guess would be a mouse or rat. Cut-worms usually eat the stem at the surface of the soil. – blacksmith37 Apr 27 at 19:58
