I'm attempting to ward off snails and slugs from eating my vegetables. Is used ground coffee good to put around vegetable plants to deter snails and slugs?

Ground coffee can be used in the soil to add organic matter but it has had no effect on the snails and slugs in my garden. I don't think the type of coffee or the quantity of grounds has made any difference.
The more traditional methods of control that do work are:
- avoid loose mulches
- use drip irrigation so only the soil around the plant is wet
- copper tape around the plants that are being eaten
- put down planks or two by fours then every morning turn them over and remove the pests that are hiding there
- beer traps
- commercial slug bait is available in various types
- diatomaceous earth (has to be reapplied)
