The same potting medium was used for all of my plants started this year. The ingredients used were 1-3 years old while the compost was new this year (saved in the fall from my pile). The rack the plants were hardened off on had 4 shelves, and the tomatoes were on the top. Below them was lettuce, bush beans, cucumbers, armenian cucumbers, zucchini, kohlrabi, kale, and basil. None of those were affected which is most likely due to the rack being wrapped in a shade cloth.

@jmusser I'll add some more pictures and details later, but the plants were on the top shelf of one of these amazon.com/dp/B000NCTGQE which was wrapped in shade cloth (to protect them from the wind mostly). This was why I thought it was sun damage at first since only the tops of the plants were in direct light. The tomato plants on the bottom shelf still haven't shown any symptoms.

@Bamboo I haven't used herbicides but a local farmer said the same thing. After looking into it more it seems like a viable cause.
