I'm a usability specialist investigating analysis and design of multi-user interaction. I also live in a house in the middle of a garden, lovingly tended by my girlfriend (who has long since outstripped me on this site).

I wrote a scifi novel, Duplicate. Science fiction. Spaceships. Not a lot of gardening in it!

My statements on these websites are not official statements from any employer of mine.

comment Is it OK to use a trimmer when my reel mower does not work?
Sure, go for it. I've used a machete to trim my grass. It's all about what kind of result you want.

comment How is 'gardening soil' made?
There are some lovely recipes in other questions on this site--mulches using bark and whatnot. Search on that and for compost (as it provides a very important element in good soil).

comment Why are there wasps in my garden?
Can you tell us more about your garden and the surrounding area? You're providing shelter and food, somehow...and what climate is this?

Yeah, you'd have to have a protected, sunny side of a building or something.

And if you don't kill it, keep it under control. They can grow to be house-sized in the right conditions...

comment What are some succulent plants that are suitable to be planted indoors?
It's a general question, and we usually strive for specific questions. ("I have a room that gets 6 hours of sun. What succulent plants should I put in there?") Otherwise, answers tend to be laundry lists and it's hard to pick a "best" answer.

comment What sort of hose nozzle should I look for such that it won't spring a leak after just one frosty night?
The cheap plastic ones and even the cheap white-metal ones suck. Go with real brass...
