My tree is a wasp magnet, what can I do to get rid of them? @yms, if you find this works, you don't have to become dependent on the commercial offerings. Search the net for "wasp trap" (with the quotes)--you'll find instructions for how to make the trap from a plastic bottle and different recipes for the bait that goes inside. Good luck. |

What food crops grow well in a hot/dry desert climate? @Bryson Another publication you might enjoy is David Owens, Extreme gardening: How to grow organic in the hostile deserts (Tempe, Ariz.: Poco Verde Landscape, 2000). David Owens is known locally as "The Garden Guy." |

Removing weeds from brick patio Coomie, table salt will work. Rock salt is less expensive and works better, but only if the spacing allows it to fit between the bricks/spaces. Although I've never used pool salt, suspect it would be the best choice of all for this purpose!--GeneJ |

Leveling a yard and laying sod If the sprinkler system has not been connected, how do you know the lines were properly installed, leveled and graded (in other words, worth leaving in place)? |

How to store (Iris)-rhizomes? @PatrickB. I've never tested the long end of the tail. If you are checking them periodically, though, you'll be able to tell. Fresh rhizomes feel firm. When they start to age, they dry out and become lighter. We used to divide my mom's iris in the early fall. What she didn't use the next spring would come my way. If I couldn't use them, there were always friends who were happy to take them in! |
